Maybe you sometimes feel like a bad parent?

Your child takes hours to fall asleep, has big emotional outbursts in the middle of the supermarket, has moods that go up and down, refuses to eat, struggles with eczema, restlessness or behavioural challenges.

But do you know what? It does not necessarily have to be about parenting. There may also be something physical behind it, such as a lack of important building blocks.

When children do not get enough essential nutrients over time, it can show up in some children as poorer concentration, restlessness, mood swings, behavioural challenges, dry skin, food intolerances or sleep problems.

Do you want to help your child have a better mood, better sleep, more energy and better health?

A little about me

My name is Solveig Curran. I grew up in Norway, but I now live in England. I am married to an Englishman, and together we have three grown-up children.

I am a qualified physiotherapist and nutritional therapist, and today I work as a course leader and personal coach in diet and health. I also have hands-on experience helping children become more confident with food and build healthier eating habits in a nursery setting.

My interest in diet and children’s health began when we had our first child. He was born by emergency caesarean section, and therefore did not receive the same natural transfer of good gut bacteria on his way into the world. From the very first day, he struggled with digestion, and later he had many infections, eczema, fussy eating and food intolerances. At the age of four, he was diagnosed with ADHD.

The doctors offered cortisone, sleeping medication, antibiotics and Ritalin. I understood that these medicines may be necessary for some people, but I also felt strongly that I wanted to find out whether there was another way for us.

We travelled all over Norway and tried countless doctors and therapists, as well as many different diets, but without success. We ate what we believed was super healthy: organic, dairy-free and gluten-free, with no sugar or additives. Yet our child still struggled with his health, mood and behaviour. In the end, we travelled abroad to get help.

In England, we met Dr Richard Savage, a private doctor, who explained that we needed to work with the underlying cause of the problem: an imbalanced gut and a high intake of natural chemicals such as salicylates and amines.

Eliminating foods can be helpful for a short period, but in order to restore balance in the body, you also need to work on building up a healthy gut flora and giving the body the foods it needs, in the right amounts.

After two months with this new approach, he was like a completely different boy. He slept through the night, his digestion improved, the mood swings disappeared, and he could actually sit still and concentrate. Today, he is a healthy and strong 26-year-old who runs a building company together with my husband.

After the incredible transformation we saw in our own child, I decided to study diet and nutrition at the London School of Complementary Therapy. I knew this was what I wanted to work with: helping children regain physical and mental health through a balanced diet and a gut in balance.

Since 2007, I have helped other parents use food as an important tool for better health, more stable energy, better sleep, better digestion and improved wellbeing.

I have seen that small changes can often lead to big results, and this is knowledge I am truly looking forward to sharing with you.
